Arranging a Funeral What you need to know

When your loved one passes on, it is crucial that you let the right people know.
You may get in touch with Serenity Casket & Funerals at 9618 6689 as soon as possible.
We will assess the situation and handle it from there.

The certificate of Cause of Death (CCOD) allows you to lawfully register the death of the decedent, which will be used for administrative matters. Once a doctor certifies a death online, a digital death certificate will be issued and can be retrieved from the My Legacy portal.

If the death occurs at home:

Firstly, contact the family doctor to issue the Cause of Death certificate (CCOD). In the event where there is no doctor, Serenity will arrange for one. After the death is certified by a doctor, a digital death certificate will be issued and can be accessed from the My Legacy portal, where family members have up to 30 days to download it. The digital death certificate is required to make funeral arrangements and apply for permits.

Secondly, you can handpick the clothes you would like your loved one to be dressed in for the wake and pass it to our staff; we will take over from here.

If the death occurs in a hospital:

The doctor will certify the cause of death at the site after which family members are able to access the digital death certificate from the My Legacy portal. They will be given up to 30 days to download the digital death certificate, which is required to make funeral arrangements and apply for permits. Unlike deaths that occur at home, two sets of clothes will be required for the deceased: one set for discharge and another for the wake.

If the death is perceived as unnatural:

Should the doctor be unable to certify the death, the body will be sent to the Mortuary @ HSA (located at Block 9 Singapore General Hospital) in a Police Hearse. The family will be called upon to assist in the investigation, during which the deceased’s NRIC and all medical documents related to the deceased, as well as all medicine consumed by the deceased, will be required. Please bring a full set of clothes for the deceased and pass it to our team.
