Elson Chong
Elson ChongFounder / Family Care Director
Elson’s earnest desire to serve others led him to found Serenity Casket & Funerals in 2009. Armed with a calling and driven by passion, he set out to inculcate sincere, human-centred service in funerals. Through his years of trial and error as well as manic highs and lows, Elson remains steadfast and eager to continue serving with his team.

When it comes to funeral service, there is no room for error. Elson quickly rose to the top of his field by virtue of his sharp mind and decisiveness. He is able to think under pressure and his quick wit has often been the key to success in high-pressure situations. Split-second decisions are often required in precarious situations, but Elson has never been deterred by these challenges. He loves meeting new people and feels that his natural warmth and empathy puts people at ease in what is often a difficult time.

Determined to do better, Elson set out to create a funerary experience that was centred on the needs of grieving families. It was a precarious undertaking, and there were many times when he wondered if he was biting off more than he could chew. But his passion for helping others through one of the most difficult experiences in life kept him going. Today, Elson and his team continue to provide funerals that are marked by compassion, understanding, and care.

For Elson, it is not just a job; it is a calling. And it is this passion that has allowed him to serve so many families over the years.

Merson Tan
Merson TanFamily Care Director
Over the last decade, Merson has been proud to serve the community in their time of need. Devotion and trust are important values that Merson brings to his work as a Funeral Director. During his adolescence, he was often commented on his ability to bring people together and get them to work towards a common goal. He quickly realised that the same leadership skills that had served him well in his personal life has also helped him to succeed in his career. Despite the stereotypes that the funeral industry is only for the aged, Merson joined the trade years ago and is now a father of two. Working alongside so much death has made him truly value life all the more, and he thus indulges himself by spending his free time with his family.

With this renewed appreciation for life from both home and work, Merson therefore is determined to deliver the best service and help the bereaved family and friends through their last celebration of their loved one’s life. For this he is proud of his accomplishments and remains optimistic about the future.

Stoney Chan
Stoney ChanFamily Care Director
Stoney has always been a compassionate person, but it was her own experience with grief that led her to become a Funeral Director. Stoney attended her first funeral which did not come as a positive experience as she was overwhelmed by the expenses incurred. The high expense of funerals and how difficult they are for families to afford made the distances between them all too clear for her. Stoney’s empathetic nature ensures that she always goes above and beyond to make sure that the family feels supported during this difficult time.

Hence, she joined the funeral industry with a desire to protect families from exorbitant prices and provide excellent service in all communities that she serves. Having her own experience before this, Stoney believes that affordability need not come at the cost of professionalism or care. Joining the funeral industry was a way for her to turn her personal experience into something positive that could help others. It is her hope that, through her work, she can make the process of saying goodbye just a little bit easier for families.
