In Land Ash Scattering at Garden of Peace

We offer ash scattering service that allows families to carry out their loved ones’ final wishes.

One of the main sites designated for inland ash scattering in Singapore is the Garden of Peace, located within the Choa Chu Kang Cemetery Complex. The garden is designed to offer a tranquil and dignified space for remembrance and reflection, surrounded by greenery.

This practice offers an alternative to traditional burial or columbarium niches, providing a meaningful way for families to honor their loved ones.

Inland ash scattering is an alternative to sea burials and storing your loved one’s ashes in a crematorium.
Now with the opening of
The Garden of Peace @ Choa Chu Kang, specifically designed to bring about a sense of tranquility in its open spaces, it is an option opened to Singaporeans of all faiths, and accessible to all. However, like the other choices on how to manage cremated ashes, there are certain requirements and steps that need to be observed and fulfilled before it can commence.

Only deceased Singaporean Citizens, Permanent Residents and Foreigners whose immediate next-of-kin are Citizens and Permanent Residents are permitted to have their ashes scattered at the government’s Inland Ash Scattering Gardens.

Necessary documents include Identification Papers of Next-of-Kin or a Letter of Authorisation in the event where the requester is not the Next-of-Kin. However, according to whether the deceased was recently cremated or not, other required documents differ.

For the recently deceased:

  • The original Death Certificate
  • OR Cremation Permit (cremation by private crematoria)

For cremated exhumed remains:

  • Mass Exhumation Registration Document (for exhumation undertaken by other agencies)
  • OR Private Exhumation Permit (for private exhumation)

For ashes currently stored at government columbaria:

  • Surrender of Niche Form

For ashes currently stored at private premises:

  • Supporting documents of removal details – Signed Statutory Declaration

Singaporeans and Permanent Residents may book through the NEA E-portal to book one’s appointment using their SingPass.
This booking can also be done in-person at the Choa Chu Kang Cemetery office or at Mandai Crematorium itself.

Application would take roughly 10 minutes to complete.
The booking will be required to be paid within 30 minutes.
Thereafter, you will receive a confirmation slip.

As foreigners do not have SingPass, applications must be made at Mandai Crematorium or at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery office directly.
Rooms are subject to availability and each family can only use the room for no more than two hours.

On the day of the ash scattering itself, first proceed to the ash collection centre and present the confirmation slip for verification.
The staff will then provide a one-time use canister made of cardboard for the bereaved to pour the ashes into.
This is to facilitate the scattering process and make it smoother.

The families may use their own if they choose to.

To preserve the peace of the garden, performance of religious ceremonies, burning of offerings as well as playing of music is prohibited.
No objects are to be placed within the garden in fear of obstructing others.
The path is designed to be open and wide so that wheelchair-users are able to safely and freely navigate the grounds of the gardens.

Once the bereaved are ready, scatter the ashes upon the pebbles.
The families may choose to water the ashes so that it can land upon the soil.
Regardless, at the end of the day, the automatic sprinkles will be activated to assist the ashes into percolating into the earth.
