Sarah represents the new breed of embalmer: female, local, fearless, passionate and full of sympathy. Her father’s passing and his courage and helpfulness stood out to her and at the age of 19, she decided that this was for her.
Embalming makes her ‘feel like an Artist’. During the embalming process, she uses chemicals to preserve the human remains, applies make-up to the deceased, and even dresses them before burial or cremation.
Sarah adds that the profession cured her fear of death and is a reminder for her to live her life to the fullest. She could not say enough how embalming is the last nice thing that she can do for somebody and that if she can restore them to a state where the bereaved is able to say their last goodbyes, then she knows that she has done her job.
